New York, NY, June 28, 2007 – Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. has an important fight coming up on pay-per-view TV July 14 from Biloxi, MS., against undefeated opponent Anthony Hanshaw. Jones has made it plain that if he loses to the 21-0-1 Hanshaw, he might take his gloves and head off into retirement. But Jones said that “what if” won’t happen, that he will beat Hanshaw and that he’ll then be more than happy to fight the un-retiring Felix “Tito” Trinidad..

“Will a fight between me and Tito happen?” Jones said in an interview with Puerto Rico’s big El Nuevo Dia newspaper Thursday. “I say it will because if two people, me and Tito, want it to happen, then nobody is going to be able to stop it. In a highly anticipated match and can’t miss candidate for Fight of the Year, WBO welterweight champion Antonio Margarito will defend his belt against undefeated, No. 1-ranked and mandatory challenger, Paul “The Punisher” Williams in the main event of “Pride N’ Punishment” on Saturday, July 14, in the outdoor tennis stadium at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Floyd Mayweather, the recently crowned super welterweight champion and recognized pound-for-pound best boxer in the world today, has heard enough trash talking from Ricky Hatton over the recent weeks and is ready to step in the ring and “beat him all the way back to England.” The announcement comes just days after Hatton’s title defense win over Jose Luis Castillo Saturday night and less than two months after Mayweather’s win over Oscar de la Hoya May 5th..

Since then speculation has increased as to whether Mayweather would keep his word and stay retired unless he had a rematch with de la Hoya or when and against whom Mayweather would make his next ring return. HOLLYWOOD, FL, June 26 – This October, Seminole Warriors Boxing, Golden Grain Promotions and Sampson Lewkowicz, in association with Universum Box Promotions, will promote the first heavyweight title unification bout in close to eight years when WBO champion Sultan Ibragimov faces off against his WBA counterpart, Ruslan Chagaev, in Moscow, Russia.

The historic event presented by Nafta Moskva is not only the first unification bout between two European-born fighters and the first heavyweight unification bout held outside the United States, but it is the first heavyweight unification bout since 1999, when Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield engaged in two bouts with each fighter’s titles up for grabs. The Ring magazine and linear World Lightweight Champion Joel Casamayor announced today he is willing to move up in weight and challenge The Ring’s world 140-pound champion Ricky Hatton as well as The Ring’s welterweight champion, Floyd Mayweather. “I have waited patiently for all these so-called lightweight ‘champions’ to fight me,” says Casamayor, who won the WBC title last October against the late Diego Corrales.

The ticket selling machine known as Arturo Gatti continues to hum along as he enters his 49th professional bout, it was announced today by Main Events CEO Kathy Duva. Ringside tickets ($300) for the “Welter Skelter” doubleheader headlined by Arturo Gatti and “The Contenders” Alfonso Gomez on July 14 are sold out. Evander Holyfield has been in training camp for about six weeks, and according to trainer Ronnie Shields the four-time world heavyweight champion is ahead of schedule: “I wish the fight was this Saturday. I’m going to bring him down now even though there’s still two weeks to go before the fight. That’s how ready he is” . . . It was nearly 20 years ago when Shields began his first tour of duty as Holyfield’s trainer. In their first bout together Holyfield stopped Carlos DeLeon to unify the cruiserweight championship.

What is different between the Holyfield then and now? “I don’t see any difference. Still the same speed and he works just as hard. Evander is wise and he uses his knowledge to the fullest. I guess some people as they get older they find it harder to have goals. He’s not like that. He always sets goals for himself” . . . Holyfield will end sparring late next week. Up-and-coming heavyweight star Alexander Povetkin will face the biggest challenge of his career on June 30 when he takes on Larry Donald in Moscow. Miguel Cotto retained his WBA welterweight championship with an 11th-round stoppage of Zab Judah in front of 20,000 boxing fans at Madison Square Garden on Saturday. Judah suffered two low blows and a cut to the right eye early in the contest and seemed to struggle from then on. Cotto knocked Judah down with a right hand early in the 11th round, making blood flow from a welt above Judah’s right eye.

Cotto then landed a straight right and followed it with a left. That pushed referee Arthur Mercante Jr. stepped in and hugged Judah, stopping the match for good 49 seconds into the 11th round.

Antonio Tarver and Chad Dawson set up a possible showdown with each other for later this year with victories Saturday on SHOWTIME. The brightest young star and one of the most accomplished veterans of the light heavyweight division won exciting contests Saturday on SHOWTIME at the Connecticut Convention Center.
