IBF middleweight champion King Arthur Abraham (27-0, 22 KOs) and mandatory challenger Raul Marquez (41-3, 29 KOs) voiced their respect for each other at today?�s press conference in Bamberg. “I am happy to be here in Germany to fight Abraham”, the 37-year-old American stated. “He is a great champion and I do have a lot of respect for him. David Haye has announced his first heavyweight opponent. His trainer and manager Adam Booth today confirmed that the Hayemaker will take on Monte ‘Two Gunz’ Barrett at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday 15th November. With a possible blockbuster fight on the horizon between former heavyweight champ “Merciless” Ray Mercer (36-7-1, 26 KO’s) and powerhouse sensation David “The Hayemaker” Haye (21-1, 20 KO’s), Sal Musumeci’s Final Forum Boxing whetted the appetite of all boxing fans when he petitioned the WBO Tuesday to get Mercer ranked by the governing body. Sources close to the Haye camp, as well as “The Hayemaker’s” promoter, have both stated that they like the fight with the “Merciless” one. Juan Manuel Marquez was nothing but bad news for Joel Casamayor. Marquez won his 135-pound debut Saturday night, stopping linear champion Casamayor for the first time in the Cuban’s career with a dynamic flurry late in the 11th round. Marquez (49-4-1, 36 KOs) held title belts in two lighter divisions over the last five years, but moved up to lightweight in hopes of landing a third bout with Manny Pacquiao after going 0-1-1 against the pound-for-pound king. Universum Box-Promotion won today’s WBA purse bid in Panama for the middleweight title defense of WBA world champion Felix Sturm against mandatory challenger Sebastian Sylvester. Universum bid $2,815,756 to outdistance Sauerland Events’ bid of $1,901,014 in order to stage the fight in a “Universum Champions Night” event. As a result of the successful purse-bid by Universum, the bout will take place November 1 at the K?�nig-Pilsener ARENA in Oberhausen, Germany and will be braodcasted live on ZDF.
