Hennessy Sports and Super Channel, Canada’s only national pay television network, are pleased to announce an exclusive agreement to televise the world title clash featuring WBC super lightweight champion Junior Witter (36-1-2, 21 KO’s) against mandatory challenger American Timothy Bradley (21-0, 11 KO’s)..
This will be the first time Super Channel offers LIVE championship boxing to its viewers.
“We are happy to partner with Hennessy Sports to offer our viewers boxing content in Canada,” said Super Channel, Vice president of Programming, Sandy Perkins. “It is an exciting live offer that is an excellent example of how Super Channel is expanding the Canadian premium TV experience.”
Promoter Mick Hennessy said, “I feel this is one of the very best events in many years and we are extremely pleased Canadian fans will be able to tune in on Super Channel. This partnership could change the face of the sport in Canada and we look forward to working with them to bring the best fights to Canadian viewers.”
In his last outing, Witter, of Bradford, England, finished off Vivian Harris with a stunning, seventh-round knockout. Previously he out-boxed Arturo Morua en route to a ninth- round TKO for his first successful title defense. Bradley, of Palm Springs, California is a serious threat to Witter’s championship reign, long considered one of the super lightweight division’s top prospects; he won his last two fights by lopsided unanimous decisions.
In the co-feature, an undefeated Froch, the WBC No. 1 super middleweight contender, will battle Inkin, the No. 2 contender in a much-hyped, WBC 168-pound title eliminator. The winner will secure a world title fight against reigning WBC 168-pound champion and future Hall of Famer Joe Calzaghe.
Friday Night Fights: Terry Smith vs Kevin Johnson
MIAMI, OK - The Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, OK plays hosts to ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights” this week as former heavyweight contender Terry Smith looks to breathe new life into his career as he battles undefeated prospect Kevin Johnson in the 10 round main event..
It was a little less than a year ago that Smith rejuvanated his career with a solid victory over former IBF world cruiserweight champion Kelvin Davis at the Buffalo Run, however he two lackluster performances in losses to cruiserweight Rob Calloway and heavyweight trailhorse Robert Hawkins, have put Smith’s future in serious jeopardy. A win over Johnson will put Smith right back into the heavyweight mix.
For Johnson, this fight represents his toughest challenge to date. Johnson has yet to face any fighters of Smith’s caliber and an impressive win over Smith will put Johnson in an excellent position in the heavyweight division.
Smith, Little Rock, AR, enters the bout with an impressive record of 30-4-1, 18 KO’s. Johnson, 18-0-1, 6 KO’s, hails from Atlanta, GA.
In the exciting co-feature, Jose Luis Gonzales looks to rebound from a very disputed draw against undefeated Jason Leheullier on ESPN2 March 7th as he battles Carson Jones. Gonzales, Garden City, KS, seemingly cruised to the decision win over Leheullier in his last bout, comes in with a record of 11-2-1, 9 KO’s against Jones, Oklahoma City, OK, 13-6-2, 7 KO’s.
The Smith-Johnson and Gonzales-Jones bouts headline a six bout card that will also feature local stars George Tahdooahnippah of Lawton and Kyle Sherman of Oklahoma City. World rated female Franchesca Alcanter will also be featured.
Tickets for the event are priced at $25, $50 and $100 and are available by calling Buffalo Run Casino at 918-542-7140 Ext. 2200. The Buffalo Run Casino is located at 1000 Buffalo Run Blvd. in Miami, OK.
