Haye-Johnson Off, Now Haye vs Mercer?

With a possible blockbuster fight on the horizon between former heavyweight champ “Merciless” Ray Mercer (36-7-1, 26 KO’s) and powerhouse sensation David “The Hayemaker” Haye (21-1, 20 KO’s), Sal Musumeci’s Final Forum Boxing whetted the appetite of all boxing fans when he petitioned the WBO Tuesday to get Mercer ranked by the governing body. Sources close to the Haye camp, as well as “The Hayemaker’s” promoter, have both stated that they like the fight with the “Merciless” one. However, the only stumbling block for Haye is that Mercer is not rated by the WBO, and Haye’s UK TV contract stipulates that he must fight a ranked opponent.

“I’m ready to fight Haye in November,” said Mercer. I’ve proven that I’ll fight anyone, anywhere, anytime. I’ve called Haye out twice, but I’ll only have to hit him once.”

As Final Forum Boxing and the boxing fans around the world await WBO’s decision to rank “Merciless” Mercer, the former heavyweight champ is already hard at work training for his shot at “The Haymaker.” We’ll do what we need to do in order to fight Haye,” said Musumeci. “Haye won’t have to look very far to find him.” NABO Chairman Mark Reels excitedly pointed out this would be a tremendous match up, and a very exciting fight for fans to see.

When Mercer brought home the Gold from the ‘88 Summer Games in Seoul, Korea, he became only the seventh US heavyweight to bring home the highest honor for his country. He has fought the who’s who of the heavyweight division earning the WBO title in 1991 when he dethroned the previously undefeated Francesco Damiani via ninth round stoppage, and recently traveled to Sweden to take on and defeat Richel Hersisia on points. Moving up from the cruiserweight division, Haye is perceived as one of the strongest hopes to bring glory back to the heavyweight division, and when these two heavyweight mammoths collide, shockwaves are certain to be felt up in the rafters.

KINGPIN CALLS HAYE’S BLUFF

“I don’t understand,” said a perplexed Johnson who sat shaking his head for several minutes. “This guy runs his mouth for months saying that he is going to take over the heavyweight division, that he is going to knock this guy and that guy out, but here I am stepping up to the plate, and now he doesn’t want the fight,” questioned Johnson.

“Maybe he thought I wouldn’t want the fight and he wasn’t prepared for my acceptance, but he obviously doesn’t know Kevin Johnson then. I have said since day one that I would fight anyone, anywhere, anytime. The fight with Haye would take place in his backyard, his homeland of London, and that still didn’t bother me. He knows that it wouldn’t matter if he had his entire country screaming and cheering for him because once he gets in that ring, it’s just me and him.

This guy is a complete joke, he talks all this crap how he will fight anyone and he is the man now in the heavyweight division, yet he has not fought anyone yet, and I am here telling him that I want the fight, I want to come to London and show his country what a real heavyweight looks like, and he punks out. He says he is the best heavyweight in the world, and I feel that I am the best, so to me it’s simple, let’s put the two best heavyweights in the world against one another and whoever comes out on top truly can call themselves THE best.

Next time you plan on running your mouth and calling people out, be prepared to accept the consequences and be prepared to fight. Hopefully you will change your mind and man up and we can get this over with, but it’s pretty obvious you are just flat out afraid of me and to be honest I can’t blame you. I am reading now that his manager Adam Booth is saying that three guys have pulled out and acting like noone wants to fight this guy. They also accused me of asking for too much money. Those statements are both completely one hundred percent false. I heard that they offered the other guys more money than me anyways. Let’s just stop the excuses and make this fight happen. If the big bad Haye is scared then I hope he is man enough to at least admit that.
